SYNOPSIS

Single mother Anna and her children live in the warzone of Donbas, Ukraine. Each of them has a passion for cinema, and this motivates them to create a film inspired about their life during war. It becomes a transformative work of art that keeps them human despite great trauma.

PROGRAM NOTE

The Earth Is Blue as an Orange is a film about a family, itself made by the family, and at the same time a film about the city where the family lives, and this country is Ukraine. The life of this family, of mother Anna and her children living near war, is not typical. They do not give up their lives. For this family, portraying the pain they experience during war is especially meaningful, and the resulting film is closely intertwined with life. Filming is living life itself, as if it were impossible to think of either separately. Some may ask why one would not leave the city and live life elsewhere, but for this family, it is important to remain where their loved ones are and rebuild the city. [CHOI Yiwon]
