SYNOPSIS

Marcos then, Marcos now. Filipino workers unite and lead the struggle for economic and political rights, determined to shape the course of history. In between, a janitor painstakingly rewinds videotapes featuring these struggles, unknowingly aiding in the preservation of history.

PROGRAM NOTE

Invisible Labor is a film about the strength of workers that generates a wave of massive resistance and the labor capturing the enduring collective heritage. Kalyito, who worked at an office managing the Asian Vision Audiovisual Collection in the late 20th century, spent his days rewinding footage of film and VHS copies. Thanks to his labor, the dynamic scenes of the large-scale strike in the Philippines in 1975 could be preserved for the 21st century. The film solemnly portrays ongoing labor resistance and the historical role of archives. [Programmer SON Sinae]
